"How sharper than a serpent's tooth it is to have a thankless child"
Shakespeare
King Lear, I, iv

Erica and Vanessa must be feeling very Lear-ish these days. All their perceived sacrifices go unappreciated by their children. At least there is some validity to Erica's claim. Kendall does not seem to realize that it was not LaKane that gave her up for adoption but a 14-year-old rape victim. As for Bianca, Erica's murder confession may have been wrong-headed but her intention to "save" Bianca was based on love. Perhaps if Bianca had actually been guilty, she would have been more appreciative of Erica's efforts. As it was, it looked like just another attempt to control her daughter's life. My sympathies were lying with Binky until the locket incident. Replacing the locket was a sweet, thoughtful thing to do. Binky's reaction was pretty horrid. But then I remembered that she is only 18. When you are 18, everything your mother does is wrong. As you get older, for some reason your mother's actions become much more reasonable. (It is ironic that Erica's soulmate as daughter is not either of her daughters but instead is Greenlee.)

Unless, of course, one of your mother's actions was encouraging your father to commit suicide. In front of you. When you were twelve years old. David, that silly boy, just cannot get past that. There are such conflicting stories about David's childhood, no wonder he clings to the one thing he knows is true: that his mother goaded his father into shooting himself. Vanessa says he owes everything to her because she put him through prep school, college and medical school. Leo, on the other hand, is telling him that when David inherited all his father's money, giving him a cushy life, he left Vanessa out in the cold to fend for herself. Vanessa's history seems to be re-written daily to make us believe she is not a parvenu but a drug lord. Sigh. Leo is not ungrateful to Vanessa, he just had had the unmitigated gall to grow up enough to fall in love with someone other than his mother. That cad!

Kids are growing up all over Pine Valley. JR has gone through some of the traditional soap rites of passage: he has been SORAS'd, he had a drug problem, he was caught in bed with a good friend's girlfriend and that girlfriend was murdered less than an hour later. And now JR has his own blackmailer. Time to put away childish things JR!

Quibble, Quibble

1. How sick was Dixie really if David thought it was OK to leave her in the Caribbean instead of taking her home on the WSB jet?
2. Why did David, who has no history of heart disease, test the drug on himself? Wouldn't that only prove that the drug would not kill a healthy person?
3. "I see you had your birthmark removed." In addition to all her other talents, Erica must have x-ray vision. How else did she see the back of Kendall's neck through her blouse and choke collar?
4. Not that I miss her, but wasn't Simone arrested with Mateo? Is she on her way to federal prison also?
5. Who is keeping the boathouse flashlight stocked with fresh batteries?
6. Did Bianca really think Kendall would say, "Oh, yes, Binky, you got me. I did set you up at SOS?"
7. Why hasn't Jackson stopped by to see if Kendall left town?
8. If Chris is Ryan's father, why was Ryan's DNA such a close match with Braden?
9. Where are Stuart and Marion? (I am going to quibble about this every week until they return.)
10. If Kendall calls Ryan "six pack" one more time, I swear I will throw one at the TV!

With all the conniving and secrets and murders in Pine Valley romance has taken a back seat. I hope your Valentine's Day is filled with much more love and romance than our friends in PV are getting these days.
